We Are Made to be Awesome

Sometimes we just need a pep talk, even here at RedFence. Well, thanks to Kid President, Rainn Wilson (you know, Dwight from The Office), and a timely tweet by Zachary Levi (aka Chuck), we don’t need one anymore. Go ahead and sneer, all you cynical, world-weary artist types. We support any message that starts out, “The world needs to stop being boring — Yeah, You,” builds to, “We were all made to be awesome,” and stops along the way to chastise Robert Frost about the travails of the less-traveled path.

Since declaring himself “the voice of a generation” last July, Kid President has racked up tens of thousands of YouTube views, attracted the attention of SoulPancake — Wilson’s online empire of empathy and other heartwarming characteristics — and even chatted with beloved singer/indie-movie supporting actor, Josh Groban. With the help of Wilson, Levi, Groban, and others, his pep talk already has topped 400,000 views since it was posted two days ago, and we have a feeling there are many more to come.

The tiny commander in chief is the creation of Brad Montague, “the self-proclaimed third greatest clean comedian in the country,” and his eight-year-old brother-in-law, Robby. According to Montague’s blog, Robby and his sister have Osteogenesis Imperfecta (otherwise known as Brittle Bone Disease), but that has never stopped him from dancing his little heart out when he’s happy, and well, that just makes everybody else happy too. So, Montague likes sharing Robby’s spirit with the world.

This should be no surprise to anyone who has heard of Brad Montague before.  The Nashville-area comedian — who also describes himself as a musician, speaker, and filmmaker — has other joy-supporting projects, including Love in Stereo and GO! Camp.

He says he and Robby made the first few videos on a whim, and somehow the thing just exploded. We can see why, and we hope it continues to do so.
