The Happiest Place on Earth Is… in San Diego?
by Ruth West

My unofficial bucket list includes a variety of goals — going on an African safari,  attending a game at every major league baseball stadium. I’m not sure if I’ll be able to carry out all of my wishes, but tomorrow one of my dreams will come true. I’m going to Comic Con International: San Diego!

Now, you might be thinking, “Why is attending Comic-Con such a big deal?” Up until about 4 years ago, I would’ve thought the same thing. I’ve never read or collected comic books in my life, I don’t know who the most famous artists or writers are, and I don’t know the origin stories of most superheroes. However, Comic-Con has slowly grown from a convention of comic-book nerds to a conglomeration of many different sci-fi, fantasy, and fictional worlds, spanning a variety of mediums. If you appreciate the fictional world, you can mostly likely find a subject of interest at Comic-Con.

For the past two years I have been desperately trying to get tickets (badges) to the San Diego Comic-Con. It’s not as easy as it might seem. First of all, you have to register for a member ID before badges even go on sale. Since Comic-Con International does not reveal the date of badge registration until a couple months before the badges go on sale, be careful when making long term plans, or you may run into the same problem I did. I already had plans to be at a women’s retreat with my church for the weekend of March 15th  when Comic-Con International announced the date for online registration would be, yes, that same day! I started to panic that I would have to wait another year before fulfilling this dream, but thankfully I found a friend to get my badge. Disaster averted!

I am incredibly excited to be going to San Diego Comic-Con 2014, especially with such big movies coming out this year like Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1, The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies, Guardians of the Galaxy, along with new seasons of Sherlock, Supernatural, a brand new Doctor, and amazingly, Star Wars Episode VII! The full schedule has yet to be announced, but I can’t wait to see what guests, panels, and sneak peeks will be in store for this year’s Comic-Con. I have already received confirmation that the cast of Supernatural and 24: Live Another Day will be at the convention, as well as Dr. Horrible’s Sing-A-Long Blog! I will be attending all four days of the convention, and blogging about all the incredible things I will see and experience. Maybe I can convince you to try joining us next year.
