This video by the unsigned band The Get Out Clause, from Manchester, UK, was recorded almost entirely on cctv in public places. The band then requested the tapes from companies who owned the cameras. According to British law, all close-circuit cameras in public places have to be labeled with the name of the company that operates them. Also, through freedom of information laws those tapes must be made available on request, band members told NPR’s Bryant Park Project, on Wednesday.
The band spent a week performing in front of about 100 cctv cameras and then three weeks collecting the recordings, they said. The single is due out in limited release July 7. The CD has four tracks and reportedly will feature a music player with a dynamic playlist that can be updated remotely by the band.
