Who is the Fifth Cylon?
by Joel Champagne
Well, the cast and producers were closed mouthed about who the final cylon would be (despite Kevin Smith’s promptings), but the producers did promise that it would be someone we know. So that cuts out a TON of people right? I mean there’s literally thousands of people I don’t know.
The panel was very bittersweet. The stars and creators of the incredible SciFi Saga were sad to see the show come to a close. However, to a man (and woman) they were all very satisfied with the ending. “It wraps everything up very well,” said Katee Sackhoff. Ronald D. Moore had more to say about the final 10 episodes; “The members of the fleet have some serious rough times ahead, they go through some very harsh recrimination after the discovery of earth. However, when they decide to act, they go in a new, very unexpected direction.”
Battlestar is survived by a spinoff series named “Caprica“. It will be a prequel, taking place during the creation of the first cylons. From the teaser trailer, it appears that, like most seeds of destruction, the cylon race was originally created out of love and grief – the first Cylon being a copy of one man’s daughter and spiraling out of control from there. It looks astoundingly good.
Hopefully, BSG will also be survived by the concept of a more realistic science fiction. There aren’t any lasers or energy shields, it’s all hard projectiles, and damage on almost any impact. The humans need food, fuel and water, and usually all three at once. It’s all grit and valor, not the shiny, happy world of a certain Star Wars director.
Now, if I only knew who that damn cylon was…….
