From the Ashes of Buffy and Firefly Emerges Dollhouse
by Joel Champagne

Well, Buffy and Firefly are officially over and done for the forseeable future. “I’m getting my fix just doing the (Buffy/Firefly) comics right now. I know that’s not what you want to hear, but I’m satisfied,” Joss Whedon said. However, “Dollhouse,” combined with the incredible Web Movie, “Dr. Horrible’s Sing-a-long Blog” is Joss’ new vision.

The story will revolve around Eliza Dushku (of Buffy/Angel fame), and also star Tahmoh Penikett (Battle Star Galactica). They will play “Actives” or “Dolls,” essentially blank humans that can be programmed to fit any need, be it assassin or lover. However, when they start retaining memories, things start to spiral out of control.

Joss was very excited about the new premise. The thought of what he could do with this incredibly flexible premise, made him seem like a kid in a candy shop. Some fans are already worried though. Sites to “save the show” are already going up. Joss himself put it best, “I think we have a great show, and I always want to be optimistic, but I think with our track record, we’ve earned it.” Add in the fact that Fox chose to re-shoot the Pilot very much like they did with Firefly (they chose to air a different episode because it was more exciting). Joss asserts that this is a different situation and seems very at ease with the network decisions.

Eliza and Tahmoh seem like a great pair. On stage they have a great rapport and excellent chemistry. They both rave about Joss (Eliza referred to him as her “career brassiere”) and the team behind the show is topnotch. Let’s hope Joss can sneak the genius past the suits this time.
