When the freeway is too slow, RedFence provides alternate means of transportation.
The Con seems different this year. Maybe it’s the four hours we spent in traffic to get here; maybe it’s the fact that it’s no longer all new to me. Of course, it might be the ravening hordes of Twilight fans, responsible for lines closing at 1 p.m. today. The security guards are still surly, the food still pricey. And yet, even with all this, there’s something comforting about being a nerd, surrounded by nerds. Here, there is no obsession too obscure.
The pickings seem slim for shows this year. With advance reports that lines are insane due to massive overcrowding (thank you, Meyer), I’ll be camping out early for Ballroom 20. Nothing too flashy, but plenty of fan favorites, like Family Guy, The Simpsons, Chuck, and Fringe. The thing that really catches my eye, however, comes at night. At 7:30 a screening of the upcoming BBC America series Torchwood: Children of Earth is being shown, the trailer for which has been playing on Hulu for a few weeks and sends a small chill down my spine each time the kids talk in creepy unison. I’ll be posting throughout the day, assuming I can snag a seat near an outlet.
A welcome change this year will be eschewing the dubious comforts of the car for an actual bed. Shower included! Thank you Sarah Carman and Co. 🙂
