Well, I’m back home after deciding to skip Sunday of the Con. There was really nothing that interested me today, besides Supernatural. I love the show, but with the late afternoon time slot and none of the actors showing up, I couldn’t really get psyched about going. Also, my ride was leaving, so there was that.
I had a blast at the Con this year. It kinda sneaked up on me, so I didn’t have the huge sense of anticipation I had last year. Not to mention there were not as many ‘unveilings’ as last year. The panel roster focused on existing series, which was fun, but nothing big, shiny, and new. The crowds were immense beyond all measure, and there was a lot of ‘Nerd Strife’ over the Twilight crowds, who made doing anything rather difficult for other fans. At one point on Saturday night, I saw a kid with a cardboard cutout of the Cullen, with a stake through it’s heart, and a sign that said, “Twilight has ruined Comic-Con.” He had a hat in front of it with a fair amount of cash and change in it. Seems pretty extreme, but I know a lot of people who were unable to get into their chosen events because there was a Twilight event in the same room later in the day, and it had already been taken over. They’re the next generation of nerds; hopefully someday they’ll be accepted into the fold.
Even with all the problems, I had a MUCH better time this year. The learning curve of what to expect and how to get what you want from the Con is pretty steep. Forewarned is forearmed, and I was able to work the system with ease. Well, except for the lack of food on Saturday, but I’ll bring cash next time. I’d like to give a huge Thank You to Greg and Michelle Smith for allowing us to stay in their lovely home (not to mention making killer pancakes). I can’t wait until next year.
